SAN DIEGO, Calif., May 2, 2013 — AgigA Tech Inc., a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) and a leading provider of high-speed, high-density, battery-free non-volatile memory solutions, announced that its flagship product AGIGARAM® non-volatile memory, was named the 2013 Gold Medal winner for innovation in the Electronics & Computers category.
The Edison Awards, celebrating 26 years of honoring the best in innovation and excellence in the development of new products and services, announced the winners at an awards gala on April 25th at the Navy Pier in Chicago. Being recognized with an Edison Award has become one of the highest accolades a company can receive in the name of innovation and business. The awards are named after Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931) whose inventions, new product development methods and innovative achievements literally changed the world, garnered him 1,093 U.S. patents, and made him a household name around the world.
“Our judges recognized AgigA Tech as a true innovator out of the many products in its category,” said Frank Bonafilia, executive director of the Edison Awards. The ballot of nominees for the Edison Awards™ was judged by a panel of more than 3,000 leading business executives including past award winners, academics and leaders in the fields of product development, design, engineering, science and medical.
“To be named the Gold Medal winner in a category with two other technology stalwarts is truly an honor,” said Ron Sartore, CEO of AgigA Tech. “We are proud that AGIGARAM’s breakthrough performance improvements for enterprise computing systems has been recognized with this award.”
About AGIGARAM®
AGIGARAM is a new class of non-volatile memory developed to meet the need for higher-density, higher-performance memory for enterprise-class storage and server applications. By combining industry-standard DRAM and NAND Flash technology, AGIGARAM provides the low latency and nearly infinite endurance of DRAM, along with the non-volatility of Flash. During normal operation, AGIGARAM appears to the host system as a standard JEDEC DRAM memory module. In the event of an unexpected power loss, the critical data residing in the DRAM is saved to onboard NAND Flash using a battery-free power source based on ultracapacitors. When power is returned, the in-memory state of the DRAM at the time power was lost is restored from the Flash. The recovery time from a catastrophic power-loss event is almost immediate since the restore operation takes a matter of seconds and recharging the ultracapacitors takes only minutes. AGIGARAM is designed to integrate easily into the DIMM slots of industry-standard server and storage platforms, providing fast persistent memory for use cases such as write caching, metadata storage and other in-memory computing applications.

Application usage may include write caching for RAID, hash look-up and coherency, database and translation layer management, fast transactional IO in a tiered storage architecture, or even whole system persistence. AgigA Tech will be showcasing the new evaluation system and more at the upcoming Flash Memory Summit at the Santa Clara Convention Center from August 9 to 11 in booth #213. Those interested in scheduling a meeting with AgigA Tech personnel can email info@agigatech.com.
AGIGARAM is a new class of non-volatile memory developed to meet the need for higher-density, higher-performance memory for enterprise-class storage and server applications. By combining DRAM, Flash, an intelligent system controller and an ultracapacitor power source, AGIGARAM provides a highly reliable memory subsystem that runs with the latency and endurance of the fastest DRAM, but with the persistence of Flash. Until recently, designers have reluctantly used batteries to maintain their data during power outages. Others have moved toward new flash-based technologies for memory persistence, but this option falls short of DRAM in terms of latency, speed, endurance and reliability. AGIGARAM enables the fastest possible system performance while also eliminating the many headaches associated with batteries, such as hazardous material disposal, short operating life and extensive maintenance.
“We’ve taken our second-generation DDR3 AGIGARAM NVDIMM solutions and integrated them into an industry standard server platform,” said Ron Sartore, CEO of AgigA Tech. “This new evaluation system provides a simple platform for developers to evaluate how our AGIGARAM technology can improve the performance, cost and reliability of their end products.”
Since 2007, AgigA Tech has focused on developing an innovative high-density, high-speed, battery-free non-volatile memory technology. As the inventor of the underlying technology and architecture of AGIGARAM, AgigA Tech has built up the strongest IP position in the industry. AgigA Tech has also pioneered the use of a battery-free power source based on ultracapacitor technology for this application. All AgigA Tech products utilize ultracapacitors that have gone through rigorous reliability and accelerated life testing at AgigA Tech’s reliability test lab. AgigA Tech has been continuously testing ultracaps for over 3 years, amassing a significant amount of test data that is unmatched in the industry. The test lab runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with multiple ultracap offerings from several manufacturers tested at varying operating temperatures and voltages. Based on this extensive test data, the most reliable ultracap products have been incorporated into the PowerGEM® modules used with the AGIGARAM products, and are privately labeled as qualified through the AGIGACAP™ reliability program.

AgigA Tech Expands Portfolio with Market's Highest-Density Non-Volatile DDR3 Solution for Critical Data Back-Up
DDR3 AGIGARAM Solutions Offer up to 8 GB Densities For Maintenance-Free Data Integrity for Storage and Server Applications
POWAY, Calif., August 11, 2010—AgigA Tech Inc., a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Nasdaq: CY), today announced the industry's highest-density DDR3 solution as part of its family of high-speed, battery-free non-volatile RAM systems. The new solutions in the AGIGARAM non-volatile system (NVS) family deliver densities up to 8 gigabytes (GB) providing flexibility to system architects and designers to tailor non-volatile memory for specific application requirements. As the industry's first to sample a 1 GB non-volatile DDR3 solution, AgigA Tech now extends the market's broadest portfolio of battery-free non-volatile memory solutions with these newly introduced products.
The AGIGARAM product family merges NAND Flash, DRAM and a battery-free ultracapacitor power source into a highly reliable non-volatile memory system. When used as a write cache in enterprise-class applications, AGIGARAM provides a performance-boosting building block while guarding against power failures and consequent loss of critical data. The DDR3 products deliver data transfer speeds up to 1333 MT/s (megatransfers per second). AgigA Tech offers unique product support to boost reliability, including extensive ultracapacitor testing with a dedicated test lab, in-system health monitoring, a system safe control protocol, and extended lifetime operation. More information on the AGIGARAM systems is available at www.agigatech.com.
"AgigA Tech is completely focused on providing highly reliable non-volatile memory solutions to our customers," said Ron Sartore, CEO of AgigA Tech. "Our newest additions to the AGIGARAM portfolio deliver worry-free data-protection with DDR3-1333 performance, and demonstrate our leadership commitment to the market."
Complementing the nvSRAM offerings from Cypress, the AGIGARAM system scales and extends nonvolatile solutions to much higher densities. The next best high-density alternative, battery-backed memories, can offer high speeds, but are subject to numerous problems, such as hazardous material issues, increased design complexity, long charge times, limited operating life, and a high total cost of ownership.
The AGIGARAM system solves these problems with a novel use of a battery-free power sub-system, teamed with high-speed SDRAM, NAND Flash, intelligent power management and a proprietary system controller. During normal operation, the AGIGARAM system appears as a DDR3-registered DIMM to the host system, providing all the benefits and speed of a standard high-speed, high-density SDRAM. In the event of a power loss, the AGIGARAM system can be commanded to take control of the SDRAM and transfer its contents to Flash memory using energy from its ultracapacitor power source, thereby preserving all the SDRAM data. After power is restored, the AGIGARAM system can be commanded to transfer the contents back into the SDRAM and returns control to the host system. This functionality can be used for power interruption/loss immunity, write caching and posting, data logging and journaling, instant-on recovery, and service and maintenance processing.

The AGIGARAM technology is the industrys first high-speed, high-density non-volatile RAM system, delivering densities between 4 megabytes (32 megabits) and 2 gigabytes (16 gigabits) and peak transfer rates equivalent to DRAMs. EDN editors sort through thousands of new products and technologies introduced each year to identify items for the annual Hot 100 Products list. The EDN product review of the AGIGARAM system is available at http://www.edn.com/blog/1470000147/post/20045002.html.
The AGIGARAM non-volatile system uses a battery free power sub-system, teamed with high-speed synchronous DRAM, NAND Flash, intelligent power management and a proprietary system controller. During normal operation the AGIGARAM functions exactly like a synchronous DRAM (SDRAM). When power is lost, however, it automatically saves the data to NAND Flash using the energy stored in the power subsystem. When power is restored, the data is transferred back into the SDRAM. This functionality can be used for power interruption/loss immunity, instant-on recovery, write caching and posting, data logging and journaling, and service and maintenance processing. More information on the AGIGARAM is available at http://www.agigatech.com.
Just as the AGIGARAM system has earned the attention of EDNs editors, customers have recognized this technology as a superior solution for high-speed, high-density non-volatile RAM, said Ron Sartore, CEO of AgigA Tech. Our flexible AGIGARAM families come in multiple form factors and host interfaces, offering the benefits of high-speed, non-volatile memory for a wide range of applications.

The CAPRI family brings AGIGARAM's™ unique high-speed, high-density non-volatile RAM technology to higher-end applications in the networking, storage, industrial and embedded markets, said Ron Sartore, CEO of AgigA Tech. Our flexible CAPRI products come in multiple form factors and host interfaces, enabling rapid time-to-market and high performance.
Until now, high-speed, non-volatile memory choices have been limited, especially when the performance of a RAM is desired.
The AGIGARAM system solves these problems with a novel use of a battery free power sub-system, teamed with high-speed synchronous DRAM, NAND Flash, intelligent power management and a proprietary system controller.

Today's memory technologies all have a problem. DRAM is volatile, flash is slow, SRAM with batteries is unreliable, and alternative technologies are too costly to use in large densities," said Jim Handy, Director of Objective Analysis. "Products like AgigA Tech's that combine the best attributes of DRAM and NAND are likely to meet with broad acceptance."
AgigA Tech's unique technology and expertise have yielded a superior solution for high-speed, high-density non-volatile RAM, said Ron Sartore, CEO of AgigA Tech. And our relationship with Cypress enables us to work with customers through a world-class sales and distribution network.
